PTSD and Trauma Therapies

PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and Trauma Therapies
I am trained in EMDR, prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy all which are evidenced based therapies that address trauma and PTSD
EMDR-In EMDR, a patient brings to mind emotionally unpleasant images and beliefs about themselves related to their traumatic event. With these thoughts and images in mind, patients are asked to also pay attention to an outside stimulus, such as eye movements or finger tappings guided by the therapist. It works by building new connections between a patient’s traumatic memories and adaptive information (for example, positive beliefs) within other areas of the memory, bringing about a reduction in PTSD symptoms.

PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY-Prolonged exposure therapy (PE) is a theoretically-based and highly efficacious treatment for chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related depression, anxiety, and anger. Based on basic behavioral principles, it is empirically validated, with more than 20 years of research supporting its use. It is specifically designed to help clients psychologically process traumatic events and reduce trauma-induced psychological disturbances. Prolonged exposure produces clinically significant improvement in about 80% of patients with chronic PTSD.
